Living with chronic pain and the demands of everyday life means I can’t just “push through” like I used to.
Over time, I’ve had to slow down, listen closely to my body, and create a rhythm that supports both my physical and mental wellbeing.
These aren’t fancy hacks or quick fixes — they’re small, manageable strategies that I’ve learned through trial, error, and a whole lot of self-compassion.
Some days are better than others, but these practices help me keep showing up.
1. Listening to My Body

Tuning in is everything.
Whether it’s physical discomfort, emotional overwhelm, or just pure exhaustion — I pay attention.
I don’t ignore the signs anymore.
If my body says “rest,” I rest.
If it says “stretch,” I stretch.
It’s not weakness.
It’s wisdom.
2. Nourishing With Purpose

Food has become less about guilt and more about fuel.
I focus on what gives me energy and eases inflammation:
– Magnesium-rich foods
– Protein with every meal
– Hydration (lots of herbal teas!)
– Plant-based meals where possible
I still enjoy chocolate and comfort food, but I make choices that support how I want to feel.
3. Gentle Movement Every Day

No pressure.
No pushing.
Just intentional movement:
– Gentle Pilates
– Legs-up-the-wall
– A short walk with breaks
– Dancing in the kitchen
– Fascia stretching
Even five minutes counts.
It’s about consistency, not intensity.
4. Protecting My Energy

I have boundaries now.
I say “no” more freely.
I limit time with people who drain me, and I lean into moments that nourish me.
That means:
– Quiet time daily
– Podcasts or journaling
– Spending time with people who “get” me
Protecting my peace is not optional — it’s survival.
5. Creating a Soothing Routine

Routines ground me.
I keep it simple:
– Slow mornings with a warm drink
– A moment of journaling or planning
– Evening wind-down with a cosy show or bath
Predictability brings calm to the chaos.
6. Staying Connected

Support is essential.
Whether it’s a friend, support group, or online community — I need connection.
I try to check in regularly, share how I’m doing, and listen to others.
It reminds me I’m not alone.
7. Letting Go of Perfection

Perfection used to run my life.
Now? I focus on progress.
– I celebrate small wins
– I forgive myself when I slip
– I remind myself that healing isn’t linear
It’s okay if I don’t tick every box every day.
I’m still doing enough.
8. Prioritising Rest Without Guilt

Rest is not laziness.
It’s medicine.
Whether that’s a nap, quiet time, or simply lying down with a podcast, I give myself permission to pause — without explaining or apologising.
