Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.
Let’s be honest—first days, whether at school, work, or as a parent, aren’t exactly the stuff of clear memories for some of us.
Maybe it’s the anxiety fog, or maybe it’s just that survival mode takes over.
I can’t recall much of my first days, but I do remember the strategies that always got me through.
On a first day, I’m always the quiet observer. I try to be friendly, but mostly I’m all ears and watchful eyes, figuring out the vibes.
Who’s approachable?
Who’s best to steer clear of?
At work, it’s office politics and quiet chats with the “low-key cool” person.
As a parent, it’s learning which cry means “feed me” and which means “I just feel like crying.”
Each first day comes with its own unique blend of nerves, hope, and curiosity.
But the game plan is usually the same: stay open, take it all in, connect and figure out how to fit into the rhythm of it all.
By the end of it, you usually realize that the scariest part was just the buildup in your head.
So, if you’re facing a first day soon, just remember: observe, connect, and take a deep breath—you’ve got this!
