How to Trust Your Decisions and Learn from Them :)

It’s easy to look back and wonder, “Did I make the right decision?” But hindsight can be misleading.

Often, we judge ourselves based on what we know now, not what we knew at the time.

Decisions are made with the information we have in the moment, and sometimes, things don’t unfold as expected. The key is to trust that you did your best with what you had, and even if things didn’t turn out as planned, there are lessons to be learned.

8 Tips for Reflecting on Past Decisions:

  1. Acknowledge the context: Consider the information you had when making the decision.
  2. Be compassionate with yourself: Everyone makes choices they regret sometimes, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t valid at the time.
  3. Look for growth: Every decision, whether it turned out well or not, teaches you something about yourself.
  4. Consider external factors: Life happens beyond our control—understanding that can help us let go of self-blame.
  5. Focus on the present: Learn from the past, but don’t let it dictate your future choices.
  6. Ask for feedback: Sometimes, gaining other perspectives can provide clarity on whether you made the right choice.
  7. Trust your intuition: When in doubt, your gut feeling often has more wisdom than you realize.
  8. Recognize progress: Even if things didn’t go as expected, progress often comes from facing challenges head-on.

Journal Reflection Questions:

  1. What was the most important information I had at the time of the decision?
  2. How would I have made a different choice if I knew what I know now?
  3. What positive lessons have I learned from this experience?
  4. How can I use the lessons from this decision to help with future choices?
  5. Am I being too hard on myself for the outcome of this decision?
  6. What would I tell a friend who had made the same choice?
  7. How did I trust myself at the time of making the decision?
  8. How has this decision helped me grow as a person?

Looking back through a lens of growth, we can find peace in our decisions—no matter how they turned out.
