You’d think the best compliments would come from the people closest to you.
The ones who see you every day.
The ones who know you best.
But funny enough, that’s not always how it works.
From the people closest to us, we often get something different — banter, small gestures, quiet support. The kind of love that doesn’t always need words. And while that means everything, it’s not always where the big, standout compliments come from.
For me, the best compliments I’ve ever received came from… professionals.
Simple words but hit me hard:
“You’re a great parent.”
Those words landed in a way I didn’t expect.
Because parenting is one of those things where you’re constantly questioning yourself.
Am I doing enough?
Am I getting it right?
Am I helping them or messing them up?
You don’t get a report card.
You don’t get clear feedback.
You just show up every day and hope you’re doing your best.
So when someone who sees families all the time — someone who understands children, development, challenges — looks at you and says, “You’re a great parent,” it hits differently.
It feels real.
It feels earned.
It feels seen.
It reminded me that all the small, everyday things matter:
- The listening
- The patience (even when it’s tested)
- The showing up, again and again
It made me pause and think… maybe I am doing okay.
