Put Yourself First – Without the Guilt

One of the most powerful changes I’ve made in my life is learning to put myself first—not in a selfish way, but in a self-compassionate one.

For a long time, I hesitated. I worried that prioritizing my own needs would come across as selfish, even though deep down I knew I was kind, caring, and always there for others.

But the truth is, constantly giving without checking in with yourself leads straight to burnout. And you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Thanks to a pain management program that introduced me to self-compassion, I now start each day with a moment just for me: coffee, journaling, and asking myself;

What is essential for me today?

Today, the answer is rest.

I’m sore, I have a meeting later, and I want to be present for it. Maybe a swim will help recharge me—that’s part of listening to my body too.
