Freedom and Growth : Reflections on Adulthood

When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was five, I always wanted to be Older. I thought being older meant freedom.

I imagined staying up late, eating dessert for dinner, and making my own rules.

Adults didn’t have to ask permission—they just did things.

I would watch my parents drive and think, One day, that’ll be me, going anywhere I want.

I wanted to read books without pictures, have deep conversations, and know everything about the world.

I wanted to be taller, stronger, wiser.

Now that I’m grown up, I love it.

Yes, it’s stressful, and responsibilities pile up, but I finally have the freedom I always dreamed of.

I can decide my own path, make my own choices, and live life the way I want.

Five-year-old me would be proud.
