I recently finished reading Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman for the second time—and I have to say, I enjoyed it even more this time around! The book is both heartwarming and heartbreaking, with a protagonist who is as intriguing as she is complex.
Eleanor Oliphant is an unusual character, socially awkward and brutally honest, living a life of strict routines and isolation. While her quirks and struggles might not be relatable to the extreme, there are definitely moments where you can connect with her—feeling out of place, struggling with past pain, or simply trying to navigate life’s complexities.
What makes this book so interesting is its balance between humor and deep emotional themes. Eleanor’s inner dialogue is often funny, even when she doesn’t mean it to be, and that contrast between lightheartedness and her darker past makes the story compelling.
Reading it for the second time allowed me to appreciate the subtle details I may have missed before—small moments of growth, hints about her past, and the delicate way the author unravels Eleanor’s story. Seeing her transformation again made me root for her even more.
If you’re looking for a book that’s both thought-provoking and entertaining, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is definitely worth a read (or even a reread!).
It stays with you long after you turn the last page.
