Life Without Chronic Pain

Daily writing prompt
What is one thing you would change about yourself?

If I could change one thing about myself, it would undoubtedly be my chronic pain.

I often imagine a life where this constant weight is lifted—a life where I could fully embrace independence and all the joys that come with it.

Would I climb mountains, travel, or maybe just get my nails and hair done more often simply because I enjoy it? Absolutely.

I dream of fitter days, playing rugby or volleyball with my kids without worry, or being more social without the drain of physical discomfort.

Chronic pain doesn’t just affect me—it affects my family, too.

I often think about how much more fun and energy I could bring to our time together if I weren’t in pain.

But even as I fantasize about a pain-free life, I know that my resilience comes from this struggle. Chronic pain shapes me but doesn’t define me, and imagining a brighter version of myself inspires me to keep adapting and finding joy in what I can do.

What’s one thing you’d change about yourself, and how would it transform your life?
