What are your favorite animals?
For as long as I can remember, birds have been my favorite animals.
They’ve always held a special place in my heart, not only for their beauty and diversity but for the memories and joy they’ve brought into my life.
As a child, my family had an aviary. I remember the canaries with their vibrant yellow feathers, the zebra finches with their unique black and white patterns, the friendly cockatiels, and even the pigeons who added a touch of calm with their coos.
Each species brought something different to the aviary!
We built an aviary together with my kids, and just like in my childhood, it became a source of joy and learning for the entire family. We love the antics of the zebra finches and canaries.
While I love all birds, penguins hold a special spot in my heart.
There’s something enchanting about these flightless seabirds. Maybe it’s their waddling gait, their incredible resilience in some of the harshest climates on Earth, or the way they form such strong family bonds. Penguins remind me of the strength and warmth that comes from community—a value I hold close.
Despite my love for birds, I’ll admit I have one avian nemesis: the ostrich.
These towering creatures, with their powerful legs and intense stares, are the only birds that make me a little uneasy. Maybe it’s their size or their quick, sharp movements, but there’s a certain unpredictability about them that keeps me on edge.
For me, birds symbolize freedom, beauty, and resilience. They come in so many shapes, sizes, and personalities, each with its own unique traits.
They bring joy with their songs, intrigue with their behaviors, and a sense of wonder with their ability to adapt to every corner of the Earth.
