Fear of Change? Journal Your Way to Clarity

Leaving things behind can be one of the hardest parts of growth.

We hold onto routines, relationships, identities, or even physical items because they feel safe. But sometimes, clinging to the familiar can keep us from moving forward.

Letting go is often the first step toward something better, but it’s normal to feel fear about what we might lose in the process. If you’re struggling to release what’s holding you back, here are some journal prompts to help you explore your fears and find clarity:

Journal Prompts:

  1. What parts of your current life are you most afraid of letting go?
  2. Are there relationships or situations that feel safe but are no longer serving you?
  3. How would your life look if you left those things behind? Write down the fears that arise.
  4. What’s the worst that could happen if you let go? What’s the best that could happen?
  5. What are you holding onto that no longer aligns with who you are becoming?
  6. How has holding onto the past kept you from pursuing something new?
  7. What’s one thing you can release today that will make room for growth?
  8. Imagine your future self five years from now. What do they wish you had let go of sooner?

Remember, letting go doesn’t mean forgetting or dismissing what you’re leaving behind—it’s about creating space for something new.

Reflect deeply on what’s worth carrying forward and what can be released, trusting that the best is yet to come.

By journaling through these questions, you might uncover the courage to embrace the unknown and make room for the possibilities ahead.
