In our fast-paced world, we often find ourselves chasing things we believe will bring happiness—more success, more money, more “someday” plans. But one of life’s deepest truths is this:
you can’t buy time, and you can’t save it either
Time is the one resource that, once spent, is gone forever.
The only real choice we have is how we spend it.
Think about your daily routine. How much of it is dedicated to the people you love? Our modern culture often glorifies being busy—being so caught up in work, routines, and to-do lists that we let our relationships slip to the sidelines.
But the reality is, every moment spent away from the people who matter most is time we won’t get back.
This isn’t to say that goals and work aren’t important. But it’s all too easy to let the days and weeks slip by without truly connecting with those we care about. When we look back, we don’t remember every e-mail we sent or the hours we spent glued to our screens; we remember the conversations, the laughter, the shared experiences that made us feel alive.
So, here’s a challenge: start looking at time as something precious, something that should be spent thoughtfully.
Carve out time to have dinner with family, go for a walk with a friend, or call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. These moments may seem small, but they’re the ones that matter most.
Remember, you can’t buy time, and you can’t save it. But you can spend it wisely—with the people who bring you joy and love.
Because in the end, those are the moments that make a life well-lived.
Reflect and Journal:
- What are my top three priorities, and am I spending enough time on them?
- How much time do I spend on things that truly bring me joy?
- What activities waste my time without adding value?
- How often do I prioritize time with loved ones?
- What tasks could I delegate or simplify to free up time?
- When did I last take a break to recharge?
- Does my time spent align with my long-term goals?
- If I had one extra hour each day, how would I spend it?
These questions still help you evaluate how your time use matches your values and goals.
