My Toughest Challenge: Building a Business with Chronic Pain

Daily writing prompt
What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?

Starting my own business was the toughest goal I’ve ever set for myself. Living with chronic pain and anxiety, I quickly learned that my biggest challenge wasn’t just the physical struggle, but also the mental battle—especially when negative comments would hit harder than they might for others. For a long time, I couldn’t earn my own money, and that reality was difficult to accept.

I knew I needed something that allowed me to work for myself, on my own terms, while still taking care of my health. Building a business meant fighting through self-doubt and overcoming the fear of failing, but it also meant creating a life that suited my needs. It wasn’t about becoming rich; it was about reclaiming a sense of purpose, independence and control over my days.

Now, I am far from wealthy, but I’ve found something even more valuable—enjoying my days, working at my own pace, and knowing that my business is a reflection of my resilience and growth. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. I’ve learned that success is sometimes just about the courage to keep going, even when everything hurts.
