Friends

Everyone has friends. Guess what? I have too! hahaha! Can't believe I started of with the cheesy stereotypical phrase. Anyways, I thought of this topic and somehow wanted to share about it.
It's not exactly about friends, it's about influences and conformity. We all have friends. Friends whom we spend little time with once in a while to just joke around, and also friends whom we spend a lot of the time with. In this short post, I would focus on the second category, because those are the people who actually have the ability to influence.
I think friends are not people who requires you to change to be like them to fit into this evil thing called 'cliques'. True friends, in my opinion, are people who helps you know more about yourself and help discover who you really are and gives you full support.
I used to freak out with those cliques they had in church (one of the unpleasant things about being in a big church), I never joined one, and I don't think I ever will, because it's just not who I am. Somehow God just brought me through those children church days without conforming to any of them, but I was pretty much alone. Now I realize perhaps shyness (that I used to have) was something that God used to bring me through. If I ever conformed to any, you wouldn't see me in this shape right now. haha! But as I have posted before, God somehow opened me up in the very first mission trip I went and opened my eyes that there are people who are 'like me' who cares about stuff and have this passion to serve and do something for God. From there I was aquainted to more people who are like that and more and more, and grew to be a much different erson from then on. In other words, my life turned upside down. Well, it wasn't because of friends, It was becuase of God. Those people did not 'opened me up' to be 'active', neither did I do that to them. Rather It was the encouragement and the acceptance towards each other that helped discover who we really are and what we can really do, the same encouragement that later helped to stand up, to live as we are made to be, as who we are.
I think this is the influence that should exist in every relationship, not to be influenced to be like each other and dress like each other and speak like each other, but the influence to help us realize who we are made to be, that would be the fellowship that God has intended it to be. That's also the reason why I say we're not a clique, we don't dress like each other, we are all different, we don't speak like each other or even eat like each other, the one thing we have might only be the passion for God, and that, makes all the difference.

This song by Paramore speaks about just that. If that friend don't accept you to be different (in a good sense) from them, then fine!
One of my favourite songs from Paramore's Brand New Eyes album. Ignorance. Will do a review of it soon.
For now, here's a good song. Especially the lyrics.
{Verse 1}
If I'm a bad person, you don't like me
Well I guess I'll make my own way
It's the circle, I mean cycle
I can't excite you anymore
Where's your gavel? Your jury?
What's my offense this time?
You're not a judge, but if you're gonna judge me,
Well sentence me to another life
{Bridge}
Don't wanna hear your sad songs
I don't wanna feel your pain
When you swear it's all my fault
'Cause you know we're not the same (No!)
We're not the same (No!)
Oh we're not the same
Yeah, the friends who stuck together
We wrote our names in blood
But I guess you can't accept that the change is good (Hey!)
It's good (Hey!)
It's good
{Chorus}
Well you treat me just like another stranger
Well it's nice to meet you sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out
You treat me just like another stranger
Well it's nice to meet you sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out
Ignorance is your new best friend
Ignorance is your new best friend
{Verse 2}
And this is the best thing that could've happened
Any longer and I wouldn't have made it
It's not a war, no, it's not a rapture
I'm just a person, but you can't take it
The same tricks that, that once fooled me
They won't get you anywhere
I'm not the same kid from your memory
Well, now I can fend for myself
{Bridge}
Don't wanna hear your sad songs
I don't wanna feel your pain
When you swear it's all my fault
'Cause you know we're not the same (No!)
We're not the same (No!)
Oh we're not the same
Yeah, the friends who stuck together
We wrote our names in blood
But I guess you can't accept that the change is good (Hey!)
It's good (Hey!)
It's good
{Chorus}
Well you treat me just like another stranger
Well it's nice to meet you sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out
You treat me just like another stranger
Well it's nice to meet you sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out
Ignorance is your new best friend
Ignorance is your new best friend
Ignorance is your new best friend
Ignorance is your new best friend
Well you treat me just like another stranger
Well it's nice to meet you sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out
You treat me just like another stranger
Well it's nice to meet you sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out
