Paediatrics is dealing with children (which includes babies, toddlers and even young teenagers). Why though, is there a special branch of dentistry under paediatrics?
There are a number of complications when it comes to dealing with children. First, baby teeth are very different from adult teeth, they are smaller and weaker and drop out after 6-10 years of age. They even have a special numbering system.
Another thing is the problem when it comes to dealing with children who are afraid of the dentist. Communications skills and the ability to handle kids well is key to being a good paediatric dentist.
